Sony has become the first of the four major music labels to renew their licensing deal with YouTube. Sony artists include many of the most successful names in music across all genres, from Bruce Springsteen to Beyonce Knowles. This agreement ensures that their content, including music videos interviews and live performances will remain on YouTube for the time being. The details of the deal have not, as of yet been disclosed.
YIt is also thought that another one of the big four recording companies, Universal Music Group, is close to renewing its deal with the video sharing site which would leave Warner Music Group and EMI.
There don’t appear to be any major issues with the latter of those two so we should expect that deal to go through soon. Warner however, may be a bit more of a problem for YouTube. Talks between the two broke down last month and all Warner Music Group content has been removed from YouTube.
Too be honest though, in the end I’d either expect Warners to fall in line or YouTube to sweeten the deal in some way. After all, the resumption of normal service is in everyone’s best interest.
