The Six Versions of Windows 7 explained (Part 2)
Professional: This one is aimed at the small business owner. It has all the good stuff from Home Premium as well as some neat security features. These include an encrypted filesystem option and a network backup feature. In addition to this, professional provides extra printing and networking options to match the specific needs of any small to mid-level business.
Enterprise: On a purely linguistic level, I’m glad they went with ‘enterprise’ rather than something unwieldy like Professional Premium. On a practical level however, it doesn’t seem too different to professional. Again, the main advances seem to be security features, it will include Microsoft’s very own security system for your data and applications as well as the capability to connect to Windows Server 2008 R2. Enterprise will only be available to corporate clients.
Ultimate: I suspect the name of this one will be enough to sell it to some IT managers which is just as well as, at this stage, there really doesn’t seem to be that much else to commend it. Ultimate will only be available as an upgrade though exactly what that upgrade will get you is, so far, a bit of a mystery. When we get some information I’ll let you know.
Well that’s it, the best information we have on exactly how Windows 7 will be packaged for you. Which version do you want?
