If you know a bit about search engine optimisation or you’re an SEO professional it can seem tempting, even logical, to do the SEO for your own site. However, you should think twice before taking on a job for yourself. It’s not that you won’t do a good job, it’s more that it’ll be bad for your health and probably your business.
When you set up a business or online venture it’s always tempting to focus on your comfort-zone, the stuff you’re familiar with and good at. The trouble with this is that the stuff that you’re less comfortable with is going to take longer and therefore, more of your time if you’re fine tuning the SEO all day you’ll probably be neglecting the other bits of the business that you need to learn.
Think about it SEOs, how many times have you advised a client not to constantly check their rankings for improvements or check their index rate every hour. Can you really swear that you wouldn’t be doing the same thing with your own site? The truth is you’re unlikely to be detached enough, between making changes and obsessively checking for the results of them, you’re not going to be using your time efficiently.
Do yourself a favour call an SEO consultant, tell them exactly what you want and then get on with the more important stuff.
